Abstract

We currently count with a renewed interest for woven shapes, an intention to return to certain archetypal values and to face experiences rooted in our cultural heritage. In this scenario, the connection between hand and idea links us to what is tangible, to the physical, and to the ton of meanings we can attribute the textiles to. The incorporation of the textile art into the contemporary artistic practice is quite attractive, as it provides a new vision over concepts of our time, processes and results that can only be articulated in the material nature of these artworks, as, it not only redefines traditional raw materials and their use, but also experimentation with new materials, mostly recycled and reused. We will analyze how under the concept of “the woven or spun" contemporary art uses diverse materials and techniques, including consumer by-products, which allows to reflect on how waste can be turned into new forms, supporting circular economy.
