Resum

The two institutions that housed exotic animals in Madrid during the 19th century(Casa de Fieras 1774-1972 and Jardín de Aclimatación 1859-1868) were the object ofpeculiar studies with the aim of obtaining zootechnical use for species as diverse asthe zebra, the kangaroo, the ostrich, the camel, the vicuña, etc. The paper presentsthe data obtained from different sources on behavioral observations, possible uses, adaptation to different environments in the Iberian Peninsula, reproductive success, etc. The different views and analyses obtained by veterinarians, zoologists and otherscholars are included. Some of these species have been the object of zootechnicalexploitation over time. The communication provides some data that serve as precedentsand allow to contextualize the zootechnical valuation of a species at that time.Research carried out within the framework of the R+D+i 2020 call project withreference PID2020-112514GB-C21.
