Abstract

Educational innovation cannot be understood in the abstract, but in its context and the historical process punctuated by the great transformations in information and learning: language and education, writing and school, printing and the educational system, audiovisuals and secondary school and, now, the widespread digital transformation. The analysis of educational innovation in Spain, as well as its evolution in the last half century, must start from this premise, distinguishing between what was a somewhat late reaction to very traditional primary school, what today is an attept to respond to the problems inherited from the transformation of the 20th century and what are, have to be and will be advances in the fifth wave, the digital transformation of education in the current century and the beginning of the third millennium.
