Resumo

This article analyses the European Union's investment in R&D&I based on data provided by Eurostar and the Scoreboard. The critical factor for economic growth in advanced economies is knowledge; the use of this knowledge by societies and the development of science as a driver of advances in knowledge are today the primary sources of wealth in the economy. There is no doubt that we must, together, achieve an innovative society based on knowledge. We must develop and encourage a culture of innovation. To this end, it is essential to provide more excellent stability and social, economic and legal protection for research personnel. They are the key to promoting science to innovate our productive fabric. Talent attracts talent and generates quality and innovation. Public administrations and companies must develop specific programmes to attract and retain talent. To this end, support must be given in attracting funds for research and optimising resources.
