Abstract
This article will compare the theory of translation by Walter Benjamin on his book “The translator’s task” and “Nota preliminar a una segona traducció de l’’Odissea” by Carles Riba. Therefore, it will show the definite importance of the underground sense of the words in the translation. It is what I have called the ‘survivor language’, in other words, it is what remains through the loss process initiated by the translation. The impossibility of finding synonyms of reality while translating, it puts a critical emphasis on the fall to the undamaged origin of the word, and this means to bring closer the name to the true internal sense of that very word. As a result, the act of translation becomes a reflection of what have been said, a survival in the catastrophe of the language that lives inside its own insufficiency.
