Abstract
This paper addresses the “Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”, after discerning its suitability, highlighting the relevance of the fact that they are collective rights and showing how these peoples can find, in such rights, a legal guarantee and a practical way for their expectations and projects. It then underlines the nuclear nature of the narrative identity of these peoples, which is an expression of their history and a motivation for their initiative to renew themselves. Finally, it concludes by arguing how what could be considered a singularity that questions the universality of rights is in fact a challenge to aconception of it as a plural and inculturated universality, much more in line with the conception of what the human being is than the one traditionally defended.
