The aim of this article is to analyze the biographical context and content of a selection of the letters written by the Republican deputy and Director of Security of the Second Republic, Manuel Muñoz Martínez, between the years 1940 and 1942, from the Parisian prison of La Santé, to his sentimental partner, Araceli Zambrano. After describing the more relevant characteristics of this unpublished correspondence whose originals Palabras clave are preserved in the María Zambrano Foundation, the analysis of the letters shows that they constitute a valuable source of information and a dramatic personal testimony about the persecution that the Republican exiles suffered during the Nazi occupation of France and, in particular, the tragic fate of Manuel Muñoz before his deportation and later execution by the Franco regime.
