Abstract
The censorship of the RAH to reprint the Sucesión real de España by José Álvarez de la Fuente between 1770 and 1784 reveals the difficult medievalist research and critical treatment of the news about the Asturian Monarchy at that time. A study of theobjections proposed by the academic censors is offered, analysing them in the light of source-critical medievalism and assessing the consequences of their application on the historical content of the book. This proves that the Academy is fighting against credulitytowards legendary narratives and apocryphal chronicles, but its efforts end up seeming superficial and fruitless in the light of this publication, which was already circulating in the streets.
