Zusammenfassung
Most manuals for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) are produced in Spain. Despite the teaching quality of the texts, both teachers and students find it difficult to use them in the Americas since their contents are restricted to the linguistic and sociocultural realities of the Spanish Peninsula. The article presents the main changes suggested in order to adapt Aula internacional 1. Nueva edición to the Spanish American context (Aula América). With respect to the linguistic component, most differences are found at the lexical level. At the grammatical level, there were significant changes in forms of address, the use of demonstratives and the past tenses of verbs. Phonetic changes focused on two sounds: /θ/ > /s/ and /x/ > /h/. Regarding the sociocultural component, there were suggestions to adapt a good number of peninsular referents, especially those associated with geographic space and people.
