Abstract

During the last twenty years, both administrations (local, regional and national) and private initiatives have been involved in a process of regeneration of urban areas on the outskirts of Rome, creating or rehabilitating spaces, many of them industrial in nature and in a state of disrepair. abandonment, promoting innovative experiences of a cultural nature that would also involve the population, the citizens, in the participation, use and appropriation of those places, seeking identity with the territory as a result of the cooperation between all the agents involved: institutions, associations and citizens. The reuse of buildings for cultural purposes has also promoted collaborative practices and self-managed spaces as a unique and operational form of urban revitalization. Among the most significant examples of these actions is the M.A.A.M project in Rome, Museo del Altro e del’Altrove di Metropoliz città meticcia in an unusual case of an inhabited museum.
