Résumé
The migration implies the departure from the place of residence. An abandonment of places, but also of loved objects that have had a central role in the psychical construction of the individual. The emigrant finds himself homeless: “As I left my homeland/I looked back in tears/for I was leaving behind/what I loved the most”. [The Emigrant. Juan Valderrama].The emigrant’s task has similitudes with the analytical cure: go through the process of grieving to end up accepting the lack. It consists of renouncing the mother-homeland-loved-object, abandoning the infantile and absolute, to end up identifying the fracture, the real in order to be able to reconstruct himself and make it on his own. After traversing that path, the emigrant will be able to recognise that, despite having lost the object-homeland, he never lost it. As Juan Valderrama sings: “So long my beloved Spain/in my soul you'll reside/and though a migrant I am/I shall never forget you”. [The Emigrant. Juan Valderrama]
