Resumen

The geochemical composition associated to the mineralogy and stratigraphy study of the Zoñar Lake sedimentary record, give us the opportunity to determine the main processes that occur in the lake during the last 4000 years. Five units have been defined on the basis of a multiproxy analysis. Three of them are dominated by a constant terrigenous input of Al, Si, Fe, K, Ca y Ti (carbonate mud with quartz) indicating stable and homogeneous environmental conditions related to a dry climate. Elemental ratios such as Ca/Mg, Sr/Al, Fe/Mn, indicates processes that occur in the lake as redox variations, precipitation of authigenic minerals, as carbonates related to biological blooms, and evaporitic minerals (gypsum). The evolution of these processes is a clear evidence of changes in the lacustrine conditions, as lake level oscillations or euthrophization processes as consequences of environmental shifts.
