RODRÍGUEZ PARRONDO

Juan MR Parrondo is a full professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). His research career has focused on the theoretical study of fluctuations in non-equilibrium systems. He has published around 110 indexed articles with a total of 5820 citations, according to Web of Science, and 9067 citations, according to Google Scholar. His h indexes are 37 (woS) and 41 (Google Scholar). He is in the list of the top 2% influential scientists elaborated by JPA Ioannidis (Stanford University). Parrondo got his PhD at UCM in 1992. Then he was a postdoc researcher at the University of California San Diego (1992), under the supervision of Katja Lindenberg, and at the University of Hasselt (1993), under the supervision of Christian van den Broeck. He has been an invited researcher at the University of Lund (2013) and at the Max Planck Institute of Complex Systems (Dresden, 2008-2009) as Martin Gutzwiller Fellow. He has worked in other prestigious institutions as a researcher (stays longer than three months): Stanford (EEUU), Berkeley (EEUU), Rockefeller (New York, EEUU), and ESPCI (Paris, France). He has been IP of numerous national grants and two international projects: local PI of the project Nano-QIT (2020-23), funded by the Foundational Questions Institute, and member of the committee of the European Science Foundation Program "Exploring the Physics of Small Devices". His professional career is completed with 25 years of teaching experience at the UCM, advising six PhD students and several master theses. He has been director of the Revista Española de Física (2012-13), President of the Group of Statistical Physics of the Real Sociedad Española de Física (2006-12), member of the board of the Statistical Physical Division of the European Physical Society (2006-12), and member of the board of the C6 Commission of the IUPAP (2018-23). He also devoted efforts to science outreach by collaborating in programs in Radio Nacional de España and as author of the section Juegos Matemáticos in the Spanish edition of Scientific American (2001-2008), several outreach papers, and two popular science books (Las Leyes del Azar with B. Luque and Teoría de la Información). In the last years, he launched a YouTube channel with lectures on statistical mechanics and stochastic processes, which currently has 772 subscribers.
