Doctor by the UNED.

Dr. Beatriz L. Maroto studied Chemistry at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and obtained her PhD from UNED, on the development of chirality transfer agents derived from natural products, under the supervision of Prof. Antonio García Martínez, Santiago de la Moya and Amelia García Fraile. She later joined Prof. Lipshutz’s group at the University of California Santa Barbara, where she investigated on the stereocontrolled synthesis of vancomycin. Since 2011, she has been Associate Professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry at UCM and a member of the COLORGANIC research group. Her research focuses on organic synthesis and chirality applied to the development of photonic materials, with particular emphasis on the design of BODIPY-based functional dyes. She is particularly interested in chiral BODIPYs displaying circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), as well as innovative derivatization strategies for the precise tuning of their photophysical and chiroptical properties, thus contributing to the advancement of emissive organic materials with potential applications in advanced photonics. Dr. L. Maroto serves on the Academic Committee of the PhD Program in Organic Chemistry and was recently appointed Coordinator of the Chemistry Bachelor’s Degree Program at UCM.
