Doctor by the Universidad de Granada with the thesis Reconocimiento jurídico de las minorías religiosas en sociedades multiculturales la perspectiva internacional de los derechos humanos y de los ordenamientos americano, canadiense y español 2001. Supervised by Dr. Javier Martínez-Torrón.
Accredited as a tenured professor in Ecclesiastical Law (2006) and a permanent faculty member at the Faculty of Law, Complutense University of Madrid. She is also an associate member of the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle (Germany), where she served as the scientific coordinator of the CUREDI project (Cultural and Religious Diversity under State Law across Europe) from 2017 to 2021. She is serving as Alternate Member in the Management Board of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). Previously, she worked as a legal advisor to the Spanish Ombudsman in the Department of Migration and Equal Treatment (2004–2017). She has provided legal training for National Human Rights Institutions in Kazakhstan, Armenia, North Macedonia, and Turkey. She also trains legal professionals (judges, prosecutors, and lawyers) through the Academy of European Law (ERA), the Spanish General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), and the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN). She has extensive research experience at foreign universities (Harvard, Berkeley, Oxford, Ottawa, Max Planck Institute, Sapienza). She is the principal investigator of the project Religious Diversity Governance in Spain (GODIRE), funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology (CNS2022-135745), running from 01/09/2023 to 31/08/2025.
