The research career of Mª del Mar Blanco Gutiérrez has been developed from the beginning in the area of Microbiology and Immunology. Her research work has been aimed at the study of several relevant pathogens for animals, both from the point of view of pathogen characterization and the study of pathogen-host relationships. In this sense, the most relevant and continuous work throughout her career so far has been aimed at the characterization, detection and study of the development of infections (in animal models) by the zoonotic pathogens Listeria monocytogenes and Lactococcus garvieae. In addition, since the completion of her postdoctoral stay with the group of Dr. Boudinot in France, she has established a relationship with this reputed group of Immunology, having participated in the development of several studies aimed at the study of the immune response of the host to both viral and bacterial infections.
