Andrea Carrera is an Assistant Professor of Applied Economics at Complutense University of Madrid and an Affiliated Researcher at the Complutense Institute for International Studies (ICEI). He is also a member of the research group in International Business and Markets (principal researcher Isabel Álvarez González). Under Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), he has been an exchange researcher at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, Seoul National University (SNU), Republic of Korea, and the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) in Trivandrum, India. His current research interests are in monetary economics, global value chains (GVCs), and economic catch-up. Andrea has authored two books (one published by Palgrave Macmillan and another by Routledge), book chapters and peer-reviewed articles on economics. Over the years, he has lectured on economics, spent research spells, and attended conferences in different countries. As an academic, he has also gained administrative experience at university level. Outside of academia, Andrea has worked for private companies in Italy and in Germany. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Lugano, Switzerland, an MPhil in Economics from Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, and a Master’s in Economics and International Policies from the Graduate School of Economics and International Relations (ASERI) in Milan, Italy. He speaks fluent English, Spanish, Italian (native) and has a basic knowledge of German.
