Abstract

We present a hypothetical model on the formation of the simple sentence in Spanish. The model is aimed at explaining the development of syntactic categorization, from the previous semantic-pragmatic categorization system. This emergence is studied on the basis of the omission errors committed by children during the first steps of the formation of the categories of subject, verb and object. Evidence presented is the productive language use of 62 children of 1.6 to 3.6 years old. The registred utterances include both a set of spontaneous ones plus a set of responses the children gave to the systematic elicitacion of the three categories under study (S.V.O.).
