Abstract

lmportant achievements ha ve been reached in the development of diagnosis techniques to improve the predictability of dental implants treatments during the last years. Clinical tests for assessing implant stability at the time o f placement as well as following osseointegration, which occurs in function, are presented in this paper. Tests have been classified into invasive or non-invasive depending on whether or not the bone/implant interface is affected. Non-invasive clinical tests assess bone quality at the time of implant placement as well as the implant mobility in the bone bed. Two methods included in this group, the percussion test (Periotest®) and the resonance frequency analysis system (Osstell®), have the widest the time of placement as well as following osseointegration, which occurs in function, are presented in this paper.
