Abstract

Grammatical terminology is often seen as an obstacle in language teaching. After the reflection Following some reflections on the goals of Spanish language instruction at secondary and baccalaureate levels, we present a proposal about when and how much grammar should be taught at those levels. We then go on to discuss several terminological issues, such as when different expressions are used to refer to one concept or when just one term refers to different concepts. Finally, we focus on terminology connected with clauses, specifically on some types of subordinate clauses, and we explain how terminological issues can sometimes mask conceptual problems.
