Abstract

This Doctoral Thesis presents a study on the specialized terminological resources of the health field in the combination of Spanish-Romanian-English languages and it has as main objective to offer an approximation to a model of design and elaboration of an online trilingual dictionary of health terms employing different tools not only for its design and elaboration, but also for its incorporation to a web page. In order to achieve the objectives set, first it is presented an introduction of the subject showing the state of the question on the terminological resources of the health field in general and of the primary healthcare in particular in the indicated combination of languages. Secondly, it is conducted a research on the disciplines that are essential in the construction of a dictionary, such as lexicology and terminology with their respective applied branches and it is detailed and presented the utility of different types of tools available for the elaboration of a specialized glossary that can be converted into a specialized dictionary: databases of general use and linguistic focus, terminology management tools, labeling and terminology extraction, ontology creation. Finally, a low-cost methodological proposal for the creation of a trilingual online health dictionary model is presented. In terms of structure, the Doctoral Thesis has two parts: one theoretical and another practical, developed over six chapters: the first three chapters are devoted to the theory and the next two (chapters four and five) to the practical application. In the theoretical part, on the one hand, a more detailed study is carried out on lexicology, terminology, lexicography and terminography, presenting, in parallel, the relationships between these disciplines and multilingualism and translation. On the other hand, there are analysed the concepts related to databases, tools and software in the service of terminology and terminography to meet the objectives proposed in this work. In the practical part, a first phase is dedicated to the creation of a real corpus model and research on the health systems of Spain, Romania and the United Kingdom, especially the area of primary care and electronic health record. In the second phase, a database model is designed using MySql and a web page. Finally, chapter six offers an overview of the work done. The main conclusion derived from it is the lack of such materials and the need to develop programs to facilitate specialized communication within the European health area.
