¿El resurgimiento político del Líbano cristiano?

Resumen

El acuerdo entre los principales líderes cristianos libaneses, Samir Geagea y Michel Aoun, ha conducido al inicio de una colaboración entre dos actores radicalmente enfrentados hasta ahora. El objetivo de este artículo consiste en valorar la posibilidad de que el mismo implique un cambio notable en favor de la comunidad cristiana del equilibrio político existente en el país desde el final de la guerra civil. Para ello, se ha realizado un análisis de los distintos escenarios posibles y de sus implicaciones para el sistema institucional libanés. Las conclusiones extraídas apuntan a que existen una serie de circunstancias (la polarización de la política libanesa, la rivalidad entre Arabia Saudí e Irán, la guerra civil siria…) que han favorecido el reforzamiento de la influencia política cristiana dentro de las coaliciones electorales existentes, pero que el tradicional fraccionamiento de las élites cristianas hace improbable el surgimiento de un auténtico polo cristiano o de una tercera vía. Sin embargo, sus efectos han sido positivos para solucionar el bloqueo institucional existente. También ha contribuido a alcanzar un consenso con respecto a la ley electoral, ya que los partidos tradicionales están interesados en evitar el surgimiento de nuevos actores políticos.
