Abstract

In this article we present a statistical analysis of digital inequality in Spain by operationalizing three relevant levels of the digital divide: (1) accessibility to ICT devices; (2) digital skills and competencies; and (3) digital practices and forms or use. Methodology is quantitative, based on the last wave (2018) of the survey about households’ technological equipment elaborated by the Spanish Statistical Institute (TIC-H). We have deployed a comparative analysis in terms of gender, age, educational level, working condition and type of habitat. Results show how access gap relates to the forms of connectivity and type of devices from which people connect to the Internet, whilst skills gap correlates with higher levels of educational capital, engendering more flexible and advanced forms of use
