Abstract
Active methodologies outside the classroom contribute to meaningful learning. These active methodologies are more effective when applied to contents of our recent history, such as the Spanish Civil War and its post-war. These events evoke a traumatic period that still today, causes certain social and ideological confrontations. To improve the transversal competencies of students, promoting reflection on civic and democratic values, we present three proposals, the analysis of an object of that period, the oral testimony of a relative and the historical journey through the battlefield
