Abstract

In the present work we propose the joint assessment of theoretical and practical knowledge as an alternative to the usual methods in the experimental degrees. The major aim of this pilot experience is to verify the potential advantages of the joint practical - theoretical assessment and his effect in the learning process. Two experimental works were performed to learn by means of self-evaluations carried out before and after the experimentation. Self-evaluation was performed using a test developed by the students themselves. The review of the test provided valid information on their statistical knowledge baseline. Additionally, team work, supervised by teachers of different subjects, can acquire transferable skills. The results have shown that the practical application of statistical concepts (R2 ) enables students to understand meanings, so far, as an abstract idea, in most cases just do not understand and remember until pass the course. On the other hand, the statistical methods, which allow the comparison of results, permit the self-criticism, a necessary quality for the efficiency of the self-evaluation. Concluding the experimental works, students performed the test again, the increase in hits (52%) allow us to conclude that experimentation has a decisive influence on learning.
