Abstract

This investigation aims to study the representation of the Chinese Cultural Revolution in Chinese and Western cinema. To carry out the research, it has been compiled a corpus of 49 films, both Chinese and Western. The films belong to different historical moments, in order to make comparisons of different dimensions. The theoretical framework of this investigation is based on the folowing aspects: a) Conceptual history, regarding the ideas of R. Koselleck; b) The discursive concept of thematization; c) Barthesian narratology as narrative analysis (actants, actions, time, space); d) The Lotmanian Semiotics of Culture (to build a “semiosphere of revolution”); e) The Foucaltian idea of “order of discourse”, reflecting the control of power over narrative discourses on the Revolution, indicating the consecutive historical interpretations...
