Resumen

Resumen La cefalea tensional es la cefalea más frecuente y la enfermedad neurológica más prevalente, suponiendo una carga socioeconómica notable. Es un proceso multifactorial, en el que están implicados factores miofasciales pericraneales periféricos y componentes del sistema nervioso central. El dolor es habitualmente bilateral, opresivo y de intensidad leve o moderada. La duración y frecuencia son variables, lo que nos permite distinguir las formas episódicas de la crónica. El diagnóstico es clínico y se basa en criterios clínicos definidos, junto con la ausencia de alteraciones en la exploración física. El tratamiento de elección para los ataques agudos de cefalea son los antiinflamatorios no esteroideos. El tratamiento preventivo incluye terapia farmacológica (de elección amitriptilina) y no farmacológica.
