Abstract

The main purpose of this activity is to introduce students in the use of molecular databases while giving them the opportunity to consolidate and relate different concepts in genetics simulating an authentic scientific research. The starting point is to provide students with a DNA sequence from which they must follow a guided research in different database in order to find out what gene belongs to, its location in the genome, the mutation suffered by the gen and its effect in protein translation, the characteristics of the disease involved and the relationships between molecular mechanisms and the studied phenotype.
