Zusammenfassung

In the introduction of this work we review the most important movements in the historical and intellectual development of the Order of Preachers’ province Teutonia. Thereby we highlight the dedication to the education of women (cura monialium) and the importance of translation in the fulfilling of this task. In the following part we analyze some of the philosophical and cultural contributions of the Teutonia in relation to the German Scholasticism and Mysticism paying special attention to the deep impact on the burgeoning of the vernacular language. Then we focus on three particular translation problems: the translation as informative summary in Der Tugenden Buch; the use of translation strategies by Henry Suso O.P. in his defense of Master Eckhart (which is an early example for ideological manipulation by the means of translation) and the importance of Basel as a centre for translation among the Dominicans.
