Résumé

The Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic has been a profound blow to the global economy, in general, and the aviation industry, in particular, by implementing numerous restrictive and containment measures to slow the spread of the virus. Paradoxically, air transport, as a vector of globalization, is one of the sectors that has contributed the most to the spread of the virus from China, where it originated, to the rest of the world. Unlike previous crises (Gulf wars, 9/11 terrorist attacks, 2008 financial crisis), the current health recession has led many experts to call it the worst in the entire history of commercial aviation, with notable effects on all study metrics. In this work, official data, statistics, maps and infographics from the main organizations of the aeronautical industry (OACI, IATA, EUROCONTROL, AENA) are analysed. They show the impact of the pandemic in this aviation sector, at different scales of analysis: global, Europe and Spain. The manuscript closes with some of the initiatives undertaken by governments and aeronautical authorities to provide certainty regarding health and safety at the world's airports, with the aim of rebuilding trust in society in the short, medium, and long term.
