Abstract

We present che text of a lecture delivered by Hilbert in an internacional congress of matheatics tha took place in Heidelberg in 1904. Afterwards, ic was published as an appendix oftche 7'h edicion of The Fundamentals of Geometry, when many of its contents were outdated due to the researchs of many mathematicians, even Hilbert himself. However, it is worth reading because it is che testimony of an important moment in the debate about the fundamentals of arithmetic. That is why we offer it here.
