Abstract

The following doctoral research paper entitled "Consolidation of peace and regional security: The Mutual Confidence Building Measures in South America" aims to determine in a novel and unprecedented manner the process of normative dissemination of Confidence andSecurity Building Measures (CSBMs) for South America from a social-constructivist theoretical approach to International Relations and with no aim of neglecting the conceptual broadening and deepening of studies on security and peace. This entails, first, taking a reflectivist theoretical position to interpret CSBMs as social norms, unlike the rationalist academic work carried out on the subject at the height of the ColdWar. Secondly, using the process tracing method, the theoretical validity for the dissemination of CSBMs will be tested in regional organizations such as the OAS (1990-2001) and UNASUR (2005-2015). These, as organizational platforms of the new regionalism and post-liberal regionalism, constitute a series of values, ideas, interests and rules that establish the pattern of behavior accepted by the identity of the member states, which as moral entrepreneurs in turn influence the production and reproduction of these norms...
