Resumen

El 19 de enero de 2021, el presidente norteamericano, Joe Biden, propuso a la Doctora Rachel Levine como subsecretaria de Salud. Es la primera persona trans que ocupa un cargo gubernamental federal. La transfobia afloró en Twitter, donde numerosos usuarios se burlaron de Levine, la atacaron por su aspecto e insistieron en que era un hombre. El objetivo de este trabajo es entender, cuantitativa y cualitativamente, las repercusiones del nombramiento. Investigamos los hashtags con los que se etiquetaron los tuits tránsfobos, determinamos cuándo comenzaron a publicarse, cuándo se alcanzó el pico y cuándo decayeron, e identificamos a los usuarios más populares, con la aplicación Hashtagify.me. Profundizamos en el contenido de los tuits que reflejan la transfobia y determinamos sus características y tendencias. El rol conservador de los medios destaca en Estados Unidos y se muestra también en España. Cuando la noticia debían ser el currículum y los hitos de Levine en el Estado de Pensilvania, los medios españoles optaron por reírse de sus parecidos. La broma invisibiliza el problema de un colectivo discriminado y estigmatizado, que necesita apoyos en medios y redes, cuando no los recibe de los agentes de su entorno.
