Abstract

Wax, papier-mâché and plaster anatomical models constitute an important production ofdidactic tools made by Italian cabinet workshops, as well as French (Auzoux® and Les Fils d'ÉmileDeyrolle®) and German (Brendell® and Somso®) commercial houses for the morphologicalrepresentation of natural structures. Some of these objects are made up of different pieces thatcan be disassembled to allow the learning of anatomy as if one were attending a dissection class. To facilitate their interpretation, manufacturers published catalogues and sold their creationsaccompanied by cards or synoptic tables containing instructions for use and legends related to thelabels attached to different areas of each of the constituent parts of the three-dimensionalanatomical model.
