Abstract

Iodine is one of the essential nutrients for the proper functioning of the human body. It is a necessary part of the composition of thyroid hormones, and they regulate most of the metabolic processes in the body. Iodine cannot be synthesized in the body from other processes, so its external contribution is necessary through food and thus obtain the necessary amount to meet the needs of the thyroid gland. Both excessive and insufficient iodine intake can lead to problems in thyroid function and therefore alter the proper metabolic functioning of the human body.
