Abstract

We take a tour of the city of Barranquilla, Colombia, where the main objective is to analyze the processes of city construction and identity construction and the tensions that arise in it, in the framework of the patrimonialization, marketing, and consumption of cultural products in the neoliberal city. We carry this out through the approach of cultural ventures from design, music and gastronomy, which take up references of tradition and popular culture for the elaboration of their products.My methodological proposal is based on the constant recognition and reflection of how illusory and porous the dichotomies between ‘the other’ and myself in ethnography.
