Abstract

The objective of this research is focused on analyzing the golden minute of the five candidates for the Presidency of the government of Spain in the electoral debate held on November 4, 2019 through their argumentation, taking into account factors such as populism and the essence of the show, considering the study of the premise, the framing and the function of the discourse, as well as its non-verbal language. It should be remembered that this was the first debate where the Vox party is represented, within a climate of social fragmentation and an increase in populism. As a result, it is perceived that the candidates of newly created parties, in their golden minute, transmit enthusiasm in their entirety (mobilizing function) and focus on a frame of human interest -they are concerned with the problems of society-, this last, with the exception of Santiago Abascal. Likewise, the conventional parties do not use the interpretative function (to avoid self-criticism of bipartisanship), nor the demand/solution premise with the framework of attribution of responsibility in its entirety. Regarding the timing, it is curious that only one candidate adjusts to the ideal speed, considering the golden minute a speech of condensation and forcefulness.
