Abstract

The Acribia publishing house was founded in Zaragoza in 1957 by ProfessorsPascual López Lorenzo and Andrés Suárez y Suárez, with the aim of publishing booksof high scientific and technical interest selected from among the most important inthe world bibliography. The word Acribia comes from the Greek “ακριβεια” (akribeia)which gives its name to the acribic feeling: the feeling that leads to the search for theideal, the one that brings closer to perfection, to a job well done. The Acribia publishinghouse has provided an enormous service to the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine andto veterinary professionals and food scientists and technologists, making available,in Spanish, the best books by prestigious authors and publishers in the world. Thisvaluable contribution has been extended to Iberoamerican professionals, disseminatingthe translated works to Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. As a result of thiswork sustained over sixty five years of existence, the Editorial has been recognizedwith awards from different institutions. The translations of works on Veterinary Medicine and Food Science and Technologyare collected in separate catalogs that include the subjects that make up these sciences.Of the nearly 1,300 books translated by Acribia, a selection of twelve emblematic bookshas been prepared which, in the opinion of the authors of this communication, arerepresentative of the best works of the world bibliography corresponding to VeterinarySciences and Food Sciences.
