Resumen

Many studies have tried to understand whether the processes for visual perception and formation of mental images (visual imagery) share the same mechanisms or if they are independent and use different neural substrates. In this thesis, the most important works that provide evidence for both affirmations are reviewed. Most research has determined that activation of the primary visual areas is necessary during visual imagery.Our main objective in an effort to clarify this issue was to evaluate the ability to generate mental visual representations without visual perception, using visual content of congenitally blind (CB) subjects’ dreams and its correlation with spectral parameters of their electroencephalogram (EEG) during dream...
