Abstract

Fracture connectivity analysis and a detailed fracture characterization are key parameters to evaluate and understand if a subsurface fractured rock formation can act as a good reservoir of natural resources. With this aim, some techniques (LiDAR, GPR, CMD, Electrical Tomography and classic field methods) are applied to characterize a fractured reservoir. The study has been applied to a lower Cretaceous limestone cropping out at La Fou’s quarry (N of the Garraf massif, Catalonia) showing a mean dip of 25º to the W and a subvertical fracture sets. Taking advantage of the quarrying activity, the techniques have been applied in the successive quarry front as mining activity progress. This fact helps us in to 1) assess the degree of accuracy of the applied techniques, and 2) construct a DFN from the acquired data. On the other hand, the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered allows a) the identification of four fracture sets (Set I: 357/80, Set II: 020/75, Set III: 053/75 and Set IV: 101/75), b) to characterize the fracture geometry and c) to estimate the hydraulic connectivity in the rock volume by means of a DFN done using Fracman sofware (Golder).
