Abstract

“Ten minutes of reading" is an initiative organized by a group of teachers who make up the Center Linguistic Project (PLC) of the Francisco Giner de los Ríos Institute in Alcobendas, Madrid. The proposal is that, over the course of a month, each day of the week, students dedicate ten minutes of a class to read individually and silently a book of their choice. The sole purpose of this proposal is to enjoy the pages of the chosen text. One of the objectives of the PLC is to improve communicative competence and therefore reading is one of the basic skills that a student must develop. Reading allows you to search, collect and process information; understand, compose and use different types of texts, select and apply purposes in presentations and writing and interpret and understand reality, among other objectives. This activity seeks to promote the habit and taste for reading, improve reading comprehension, strengthen critical thinking and incorporate new knowledge.
