Abstract

This research explores simplification as the predominant thinking model in design, as well as the consequences of this way of thinking on the ecological, social and economic systems upon which our survival, development and well-being depend. In res-ponse, the Metasystem model approaches design from a systems perspective, aiming to understand design, its behavior and its consequences in complex systems through the exploration of its relationships and interactions with other systems. The Metasystem pro-vides an organized set of assumptions about design, which allows the visualization of the consequences of our decisions, the simulation of system behaviors, as well as the impacts of alternative decisions. Therefore, it serves as a didactic and exploratory tool, and as a model for projecting sustainable development scenarios of the design.
