Abstract

Neuraxial anesthesia techniques have been described as safe and efficient techniques that provide the necessary insensitivity for the surgical procedure and adequate analgesia in the postoperative period. Despite this, these procedures are not exempt from complications, with those related to neurological problems being the ones with the highest morbidity and mortality, despite their low incidence. Both cauda equina syndrome and transient root irritation syndrome are rare but still prevalent complications of subarachnoid spinal block, while their exact cause remains unclear. All the hypotheses previously proposed to try to respond to its appearance have been losing support, so it is imperative to find a cause that justifies it and, if possible, can avoid this type of complications that could become so limiting for patients...
