Doctor by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis Transformaciones de la comunicación pública en la era de la globalización que influyeren en el consenso y el conflicto social 2017. Supervised by Dr. Olivia Velarde Hermida.

Belén Casas-Mas is Lecturer in Communication Theory at the Complutense University of Madrid. European PhD in Social Communication with an outstanding international distinction Cum Laude. She completed international research stays at the Hertfordshire University, University of Coimbra, University of California Santa Barbara and University of Bucharest. She is member of the University Institute of Statistics and Data Science (UCM) and Co-director of the 3P´s International Network, a multidisciplinary group of researchers from 21 countries in the areas of social sciences, computing, statistics and mathematics. Organizer of the invited session "Big Data and Social Network Analysis for the 3 P's Processes: Polarization, Populism and Post-Truth" at the 5th ISA Forum, Rabat, 2025. She has authored over 40 scientific publications (including articles and book chapters), presented at more than 40 conferences, and participated in three Spanish National Plan competitive research projects. She is an active member of a research group at UCM, "Data Science and Soft Computing for Social Analytics and Decision Aid" and “Social Identities and Communication”.
