Doctor by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis Diseño y desarrollo de recursos on-line aplicaciones virtuales de arte infantil en contextos hospitalarios 2005. Supervised by Dr. Manuel Hernández Belver, Dr. Ana María Ullán de la Fuente.

Noemí Ávila Valdés holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the Complutense University in Madrid, and a Degree is Social and Cultural Anthropology from the UNED (Spanish National Open University). She is currently Associated Professor at both the School of Education and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University. In last ten years, she has collaborated in projects in the area of expertise of Arts and Health, and community art-based projects exploring the relationship between art, health promotion and community health. She has work with older adults, adolescents at risk of social exclusion, elderly women, people that living with dementia and their caregivers.
