Daniel Blázquez-Gamero

Dr. Daniel Blázquez Gamero holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid (2003). He completed his Pediatric Residency from 2004 to 2008 at Hospital Clínico San Carlos. Since 2008, he has worked as a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist at Hospital 12 de Octubre. In 2016, he earned his PhD in Medicine with the highest distinction, "Sobresaliente Cum Laude," and received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. He has been a clinical teaching assistant since 2007 and an associate professor of pediatrics since 2014. He has taught in the Master’s Program in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Complutense University since its inception in 2011 and has served as its director since 2014. He was accredited by ANECA as a Full Professor in January 2022. He is the Coordinator of the National Registry for Congenital Cytomegalovirus Infection (REDICCMV; [www.cmvcongenito.com](http://www.cmvcongenito.com)) since its creation in 2011. This registry includes over 900 children and involves more than 45 centers across Spain. He also helped establish the European registry cCMVnet, where he serves as a Steering Committee member and “Database Officer.” Currently, cCMVnet includes more than 1,600 children with congenital CMV and over 200 researchers from across Europe. His main research areas include congenital infections (particularly CMV), tuberculosis, and hospital-acquired infections. He has published 106 articles in JCR-indexed journals, with an H-index of 26 and 6,255 citations (Scopus). He leads the Translational Research Group in Pediatric Infectious Diseases (GITIP), a recognized group within the Research Institute of Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre. GITIP has received continuous funding through various competitive international (ESPID/INOPSU, European Health and Digital Executive Agency) and national (AES-ISCIII) calls. In recent years, he has led three Health Research Projects as Principal Investigator: PI16/00807, PI19/01333, and currently, the ARTICO project (PI22/01540), which focuses on predicting the risk of hearing loss and epilepsy through neuroimaging and artificial intelligence in children with congenital cytomegalovirus. He received the ISCIII Research Activity Intensification Grant in 2020 and 2023. He initiated and currently coordinates the Pediatric Clinical Research and Trials Unit (UPIC), established in 2020. UPIC is part of the Spanish Pediatric Clinical Trials Network ([https://www.reclip.org](https://www.reclip.org)), and Dr. Blázquez is a member of its Scientific Committee. This network is integrated into the European pediatric clinical trials network “Connect4Children (c4c).” Dr. Blázquez is also a member of the Infection Control Committee at Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre.
