Dr. Sara Iglesias Sánchez is Professor of European Union Law and Administrative Law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), where she holds a tenured university position in the Department of Administrative Law. She is accredited to the position of full professor (Catedrática de Universidad) by the Spanish national accreditation agency and is a member of the Instituto de Derecho Europeo e Integración Regional (IDEIR) at UCM. She currently serves in the cabinet of the Secretary of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). In that institution, she has also held the role of référendaire between 2015 and 2021, at the chambers of Advocate General Michal Bobek and Advocate General Pedro Cruz Villalón, and has also been affiliated with the Court’s Research and Documentation Directorate. Her professional experience further includes faculty positions teaching International Law and EU Law at the University of Cádiz, where she coordinated the bilingual Master’s programme in International Relations and Migration Policy, and involvement as a consultant for the International Organization for Migration, and for Save the Children, amongst other. She has also been academic coordinator at the University Complutense of the Bachelor of European Studies, a pioneer multidisciplinary program coordinated by KU Leuven in the framework of the UNA Europa Alliance, in which ten different European universities participate. Sara Iglesias received her Ph.D. in Law in 2009 (with cum laude and Extraordinary Doctorate Award) from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and holds an LL.M. from Yale Law School (United States). She also holds a B.A. in Political Science from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). Her postgraduate work at the UCM was supported by the national scholarship "FPU" awarded by the Ministry of Education and Science, and her studies at Yale were supported by the prestigious La Caixa fellowship. Her research trajectory includes extended visiting researcher stays at leading institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for International and Comparative Law, Radboud University (Netherlands), the Hague Academy of International Law, and the University of Luxembourg. She has also been visiting professor at the Law Faculty of LUISS University in Rome. Sara Iglesias’ scholarly contributions encompass numerous publications on procedural law, fundamental rights, citizenship, free movement, migration, and equality law within the EU legal framework, including co-edited volumes with leading international publishers. She is currently the Editor of the ‘Judicial Protection’ Section of the Oxford Encyclopedia of European Law (OUP), and is member of the Advisory Boards of several Spanish EU Law scientific journals, such as the Revista de Derecho Comunitario Europeo; the Revista Española de Derecho Europeo; La Ley - Unión Europea and the review Paix et Securité Internationales. She has also served on editorial boards of major peer-reviewed journals, including as managing editor of the Revista General de Derecho Europeo and as a member of the editorial board of the Common Market Law Review. Additionally, she has contributed to academic and professional discourse through collaborations with platforms such as EU Law Live and is member of the board of the AEDEUR, the Spanish Association for the Study of European law, member of FIDE.
