Doctor by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis Función social del arte contemporáneo en España en los años ochenta 1991. Supervised by Dr. Manuel Sánchez Méndez.
Also known as Marián López Fdz. Cao and Marián Cao. University Professor. PhD in Fine Arts. Long research stays in Germany (Akademie der Künste, Munich and Hochschüle der Künste, Berlin), UK (Courtald Institute of Art, London), USA (MOMA, New York) and Mexico (University of Veracruz). He was awarded a Fullbright postdoctoral fellowship. She has complemented her training with a Master's degree in Psychotherapeutic Intervention, as well as various subjects in Sociology and Politics. She has also studied Gender and Feminism. She is an Art Therapist accredited by the Spanish Federation of Art Therapy (FEAPA). She is director of the consolidated research group EARTDI 941035 "Art applications in social inclusion" (https://www.ucm.es/eartdi). She is vice-president of the European Consortium of Arts Therapies Education (https://www.ecarte.info/) since 2017. She is an expert in culture at the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI). Her research activity, fully intertwined with her lecturing, focuses on three main areas: - Art education and social inclusion ; - Art as therapy; - Art and equality. THE CREATIVE PROCESS AND ART THERAPY AS A WAY OF WELL-BEING IN THE FACE OF CHILDHOOD TRAUMA REFERENCE: PID2020-114238RB-I00 https://www.ucm.es/brundibar/ She has signed six research contracts with the Ministry of Culture, Madrid City Council, the General Directorate of Fine Arts, the General Subdirectorate of Museums, Save the Children, among others, to develop research on culture in equality, art therapy and inclusion. She has been invited by universities and research and cultural centres in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Greece, Hungary, among others. She has been director of the Institute for Feminist Research at the Complutense University of Madrid (2007-2011), president of the Association Women in the Visual Arts (2012-2017), advisor to the vice-rectorate for International Relations and director of the Latin American Complutense School (2012-2019) and president of the Society for Artistic Education (2020-2024). She has received several awards: - Best Researcher Award 2022, MAV. - Rosa Regas Award 2010 for co-educational educational materials, Junta de Andalucía, for the educational collection "Posibilidades de ser a través del arte" (Possibilities of being through art), published by Eneida. - First Prize for Technology and Knowledge Transfer in Social Sciences and Humanities 2017 for their mobile application "Madrid, ciudad de las Mujeres" (MadridFem), together with Ignacio Moreno Segarra; - Te queremos Comunicar Award, from the Cultproyect Agency. - Their project "Madrid, city of women" selected as the only project to represent the Complutense University at the European Researchers' Night 2017. - ATE 2020 Award for the best scientific communication, together with Ana Serrano Navarro.
